The ESET research team has just unveiled the H1 2025 edition of the ESET Threat Report, providing a comprehensive overview of the major trends and advancements that shaped the cyberthreat landscape from December 2024 to May 2025.
One of the key highlights of the report is the rapid proliferation of a new social engineering tactic known as ClickFix, which saw a five-fold increase in detections during H1 2025 compared to the latter half of 2024. Additionally, Android adware detections surged by 160%, driven largely by the emergence of evil twin fraud and the proliferation of potentially unwanted apps (PUAs). Moreover, both ransomware attacks and cybercriminal gangs experienced growth, although the total ransom payments exhibited a downward trend.
