- Joining forces with ex-Big Tech giants like Google, Netflix, Meta, Uber, and Nike, Nishant Bhajaria is all set to lead Privado.ai’s Privacy Engineering Center of Excellence with his wealth of experience.
- Leading the Charge in Privacy Engineering: Nishant has a proven track record of spearheading privacy teams at top-notch companies like Google, Netflix, Meta, Uber, and Nike.
- A Strategic Move at a Critical Juncture: Nishant’s arrival comes at a pivotal time as privacy regulations tighten in the US, prompting multiple companies to face regulatory actions while Privado focuses on developing a solution to detect privacy issues within code.
Nishant Bhajaria, renowned for his leadership in privacy engineering at Meta, Google, Netflix, Uber, and Nike, has now joined Privado to establish its new Privacy Engineering Center of Excellence (CoE).
Nishant will provide guidance to privacy leaders and Privado customers on optimizing privacy programs for compliance, enhancing software developer productivity, and fostering customer trust. With Privado’s cutting-edge privacy code scanning platform that aids software engineers in identifying and mitigating privacy risks in their code, Nishant will also collaborate with the Privado product team to introduce innovative solutions bridging the gap between privacy and engineering teams. Leveraging his extensive experience in engaging stakeholders across various functions, Privado aims to expedite its strategy in reducing privacy risks for companies developing software that deals with personal data.
Throughout his career, Nishant has pioneered a technical privacy playbook to streamline privacy compliance and transform privacy into a business catalyst. At Meta, he revamped internal settings to enhance user consent experiences. At Uber, he played a pivotal role in cultivating consumer trust by establishing the Uber Privacy Center. Despite the perception that such initiatives could be costly to develop and manage, Nishant efficiently repurposed internal dashboards to power a privacy center that not only reduced data requests but also enhanced privacy practices.
“I’m truly impressed by Privado’s innovative approach to privacy compliance, which fosters innovation rather than impedes it,” Nishant expressed. “For companies driven by software, data flows through their infrastructure akin to fire through dry grass, powered by code. However, privacy and engineering teams often lack insight into how their software handles data. While many privacy teams resort to manual questionnaires for engineers, these assessments are not scalable. Privado fills this void by scanning code to continuously monitor data flows and proactively identify risks. I am thrilled to join the exceptional team at Privado and assist more privacy and engineering leaders in implementing solutions that empower engineers instead of obstructing them.”
Privado CEO Vaibhav Antil elaborated on the significance of this appointment: “Nishant is a remarkable leader and a trailblazer in privacy engineering. His extensive experience in overseeing privacy at the world’s most scrutinized tech firms positions him uniquely to drive our vision forward. While we had been planning the launch of our Privacy Engineering Center of Excellence for some time, we knew we required the right individual to spearhead it. Given Nishant’s track record in resolving intricate privacy challenges at scale, we are confident in his ability to shape the future of privacy engineering and bolster our service offerings to clients.”
Nishant brings over a decade of experience in leading privacy and security engineering teams, coupled with over a decade as a software engineer and product manager. Leveraging his distinctive cross-functional privacy engineering approach, he mitigated risks at scale for Meta, Google, Netflix, Uber, and Nike. Nishant is the author of Data Privacy: A runbook for engineers and an accomplished educator. Serving as an adjunct professor at Arizona State University and Portland State University, Nishant teaches courses on data governance and Generative AI. He also shares his expertise on LinkedIn Learning, covering topics such as security, privacy, and career management.
For Privado, this venture coincides with the escalating privacy regulations in the US. In 2024, the California Attorney General and FTC have already imposed fines on several companies for non-compliant sharing of personal data, with enforcement commencing for two significant privacy laws: the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) and Washington state’s My Health My Data Act (MHMDA). Amid heightened scrutiny on data privacy, companies are grappling with data quality issues and operational inefficiencies.
Privado is committed to assisting companies in proactively addressing privacy compliance through its privacy code scanning platform, which offers comprehensive data visibility and continuous privacy governance. With AI facilitating enhanced accuracy and automation, Privado believes it is the opportune moment for Nishant to champion the introduction of privacy code scanning in the enterprise market.
