Exciting News: Microsoft Recall Now Opt-In with Enhanced Privacy Features
Guess what? Microsoft has just unveiled some interesting details about its highly-anticipated Windows Recall feature.
In a recent blog post, David Weston, Vice President of Enterprise and OS Security at Microsoft, shared insights into Recall’s architecture and the privacy measures it now incorporates.
First off, Microsoft has made Recall an opt-in feature, giving users full control over whether they want to participate. By choosing Recall, users can allow the tool to capture snapshots, enhancing their experience. And for those privacy-conscious individuals, Microsoft has provided an option to disable Recall through the optional feature settings.
Additionally, Microsoft has beefed up security for Recall users by introducing TPM-protected encryption. To access encryption keys, users will need to sign in using Windows Hello, ensuring secure data protection within the Virtualization-based Security Enclave (VBS Enclave). Moreover, the feature includes various security measures to deter malware attacks, such as rate-limiting and anti-tampering mechanisms.
Furthermore, Microsoft reassures users that Recall does not share data or snapshots with the company or any third parties. This means you can breathe easy knowing your information is safe and secure.
Once enabled, users have the flexibility to manage Recall by choosing when to stop snapshots, deleting stored snapshots, and customizing disk space for storage. Plus, Recall will provide visible notifications in the system tray to keep users informed.
Earlier this year, Recall sparked privacy concerns in the security community. However, Microsoft’s recent update reflects significant improvements to the tool, making it more user-friendly and privacy-conscious.
