Interns at incident.io | Blog

Back in April, the first cohort of incident.io interns, Christin Yuniar Wulandari, Lucas Graeff Buhl-Nielsen, and Gabriel de Olim Gaul, joined the Engineering team for a 5-month internship. As they prepare to depart and return to their final year at university, we sat down with them to discuss their experiences, learnings, and future skills.

Christin shared that being the first group of interns at incident.io has been incredibly fun, as they were treated as full team members rather than just interns. Lucas highlighted the unique experience of interning at a startup like incident.io, where they were given the same responsibilities and opportunities as other engineers. Gabriel also emphasized the supportive and inclusive environment at incident.io, where interns are trusted to own their projects and contribute as valuable team members.

Their favorite memory at incident.io included an off-site trip to Marseille, where they enjoyed nature and team bonding activities. Lucas also recalled a memorable experience shadowing on-call overnight, where he was tasked with escalating an incident, adding a humorous anecdote to his internship journey.

When asked about swapping roles for a day, Christin expressed interest in being a Product Manager like Charlie Kingston, while Lucas and Gabriel were intrigued by the Sales and Product Management roles, respectively.

Each intern resonated with a different value at incident.io, citing “Find a way,” “Raise the Pace,” and “Trust by Default” as their top choices. They also shared insights into their most exciting projects, areas of growth, and favorite team collaborations during their internship.

Overall, the interns expressed gratitude for the valuable experiences and mentorship they received at incident.io, highlighting the inclusive and supportive culture that made their internship memorable and impactful. Hey there! Let me tell you about my experience at incident.io. I had the pleasure of working with amazing people, especially in the PINC team. Isaac Seymour, Milly Leadley, and Aaron Sheah were incredibly supportive and provided me with valuable advice.

Now, let’s talk about what makes working at incident.io so special. The team is extremely customer-driven, which is why the engineers are known as Product Engineers. We also have a unique approach to handling incidents with a low barrier to creating them and taking them seriously.

As an intern, the level of responsibility given to me was quite surprising. In just the second week, I had access to production and was already contributing to projects and the product’s direction. This level of trust and empowerment is something I haven’t experienced elsewhere.

One word to describe my time at incident.io? Exciting. The friendly atmosphere and the camaraderie among colleagues make it feel like working with friends towards a common goal of customer satisfaction.

What will I miss the most about incident.io? The laughter that fills the office and the opportunity to work with such smart and fun individuals.

The biggest lesson I’ll take into my final year at university is to be mindful of how I use my time and strive for those magic moments of productivity.

As for valuable career lessons, learning to prioritize and deliver value quickly is key. Also, not being afraid to ask questions and seek help when needed is crucial for personal and professional growth.

To future interns, I’d advise you to be curious, ask questions, and immerse yourself in learning about the products and how customers use them. Don’t be afraid to get involved and seek understanding in every aspect of your work.

Overall, my time at incident.io has been a rewarding journey filled with growth, laughter, and valuable experiences. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a supportive and innovative team. Rewrite the sentence.
