Google Chrome uBlock Origin Users Need To Switch Ad Blocker

Hey there, fellow Google Chrome users! It seems like there’s a big change on the horizon for uBlock Origin. If you’re a fan of this ad blocker, you might need to start looking for alternatives soon.

Important Update: uBlock Origin Losing Support for Google Chrome

According to the latest information on the GitHub page, uBlock Origin won’t be available for Chrome users in the near future. Starting from Chrome 127, you’ll start seeing warnings about this change when you visit the chrome://extensions/ page.

The uBlock Origin team had to make this announcement due to the deprecation of Chrome Manifest V2. As a result, they’re offering uBO Lite (uBOL) as a lighter version of the original extension, which is compliant with Manifest V3. However, this compliance meant sacrificing some features that were present in the original extension.

uBO Lite (uBOL) aims to provide a reliable and efficient ad-blocking experience within the constraints of Manifest V3, while acknowledging the trade-offs made to achieve this.

After the support for uBlock Origin ends, users will need to manually install uBO Lite or any other ad blocker they prefer on their browsers. While Chrome won’t support the extension anymore, you can still use it on browsers like Mozilla Firefox that support Manifest V2.

Google introduced Manifest V3 as a stricter policy for browser extensions, giving developers time to update their add-ons to comply with the new requirements. Failure to do so means losing support, as evident from uBlock Origin’s notifications about the end of support for Chrome.

If you’re a fan of ad-free browsing, it’s time to explore alternative options to safeguard your online privacy from malvertising and tracking activities.
