ESET research has uncovered CosmicBeetle’s exploitation of the LockBit ransomware gang’s reputation for its own gain

This week, ESET researchers delved deep into the recent actions of the CosmicBeetle cybercrime group. Notably, CosmicBeetle has been leveraging the notoriety of the LockBit ransomware gang to further its own objectives. The analysis also suggests that CosmicBeetle may be a new affiliate of the ransomware-as-a-service entity RansomHub, and it has been targeting SMBs worldwide with its new ScRansom ransomware. However, this ransomware has decryption challenges, rendering it impossible to recover some encrypted files.
