Today, I want you to meet Rory Malcolm, our talented Product Engineer here at incident.io.

Q: Tell us about your favorite memory at incident.io so far.

One of my favorite memories was the release of On-call. It was such a fun project to be a part of. But what really stands out for me is the moment in Marseille when we reached the top of a hill after what felt like an eternity climbing. The view of the ocean from there was just breathtaking.

Q: Which company value resonates with you the most?

For me, it’s Raise the Pace. I thrive on doing things quickly and efficiently, and getting that recognition for it just makes my day.

Q: What’s your favorite perk at incident.io?

I absolutely love the last Friday of the month. It’s like an unexpected mini adventure day where you can just go off on a side quest and explore new places or spend time with loved ones.

Q: Do you have a favorite Slack channel?

Definitely #engineering-nits. It’s where the real work happens, where we discuss and improve our engineering processes. Plus, we have some fun conversations there too!

Q: Any advice for new hires on their first day?

Just relax. Everyone here is supportive and wants you to succeed. Your unique perspective and skills are valued, so just be yourself and enjoy the journey.

Q: What do you look forward to the most at incident.io?

I’m excited about the challenging product work we’re doing. Every day feels like a battle, but the progress we’re making is truly rewarding. I can’t wait to see where it all leads.

Q: What’s it like being part of the Product Engineering team?

It’s like working with friends who are also experts in their field. The camaraderie and support here are amazing, and new team members are always welcomed with open arms.

Q: Describe a typical day as a Product Engineer.

It’s all about juggling multiple tasks, from deep-diving into technical problems to collaborating with other teams on product features. Flexibility and focus are key to getting things done efficiently.

Q: What surprised you the most when you joined incident.io?

The close collaboration between Product and Engineering teams was a pleasant surprise. Here, we work hand in hand towards a common goal, and it’s a refreshing change from past experiences.

Q: Any memorable customer interactions?

One that stands out is when we quickly built a feature for a customer and received a heartfelt thank you from their boss. Knowing that our work makes a real impact is truly fulfilling.

Q: How does Engineering collaborate with other departments?

Our collaboration culture is strong, whether it’s working with Sales, Design, or Data teams. We all come together to achieve common objectives and support each other along the way.

Q: Why do you think companies need a reliable incident management tool?

Having a reliable incident management tool is crucial because things can go wrong at any time. It’s about being prepared, having clear processes in place, and ensuring smooth operations even in challenging situations.
