Embracing new challenges—my journey as an intern at incident.io

Hello there! I’m Christin, and I recently started my internship with the On-call Experience team at incident.io. I came in with a mix of excitement and uncertainty, not knowing exactly what to expect. My academic background had prepared me for a lot, but nothing could have prepared me for the eye-opening experience I’ve had here at incident.io.

As I approach the end of my second month at incident.io, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey it has been so far. This internship has been a whirlwind of learning, growth, and discovery, all thanks to the amazing team I work with.

One key lesson that has resonated with me during my time here is the importance of not being afraid to dive into new challenges. It’s a mindset that I’ve embraced thanks to the inspiring company culture at incident.io.

Understanding the Product Responder role

Early on, I learned about the role of Product Responders (PRs) and their crucial importance in the tech world. PRs are the first responders to any product-related issues, ensuring that tickets are handled efficiently and effectively to maintain high standards of product quality and user satisfaction.

One of the highlights of my internship was when I had the opportunity to take on the role of a PR lead. This role involved overseeing the responder team, prioritizing tickets, and ensuring swift issue resolution to support the product support system.

Stepping into this new role allowed me to learn a lot about prioritization, customer-centric thinking, and expand my knowledge of the product and codebase.

Mentorship and team support

Throughout my journey, the guidance from my mentor Leo and the support from the team have been invaluable. They emphasized the importance of embracing new challenges for personal growth and the significance of stepping out of comfort zones.

The team’s willingness to share their knowledge and offer guidance has made a significant difference, especially when tackling complex tickets that required deep dives into the codebase.

Looking ahead

As I reflect on my experiences at incident.io and look forward to the rest of my internship, I am grateful for the opportunities and support I’ve received. I aim to continue embracing challenges, seeking support when needed, and understanding that growth comes from stepping into the unknown.
